Maternity & Postpartum Sizing

Finding your best style and sizing choice can be especially tricky if you are expecting. This article details how to determine your best size based on your style selection:

MATERNITY STYLES

We offer a selection of Maternity Styles, that are made to grow with a changing body. because of this, the styles have oodles of extra room in the waist and belly area.

These styles can be ordered in either standard or custom sizing but if you want more flexibility (especially if this is your first pregnancy or you'll be very far along at the time of the wedding) standard sizing may be the better option as it is returnable while custom sizing is not.

    • STANDARD SIZING:
To determine your best size, measure your bust, under bust, and hips and compare those to our maternity size chart, which can also be found on every dress's order page and below:

      Screenshot_at_Apr_14_10-30-36.png

If you find you are between two sizes, we recommend ordering the larger size and having it altered to fit closer to your event.

    • CUSTOM SIZING
If you want to custom order one of our Maternity Styles, you will need to provide us with your current bust, under bust, belly, hips, and hollow to floor measurements at checkout.

You can find instructions for measuring most of these measurements in the video on our size chart page but for the under bust and belly, you'll follow these instructions:

Under Bust Wearing a good fitting bra, measure around your under bust using the bottom of your bra as a guide. Make sure the tape is level. Keep it slightly loose for comfort.
Around Belly Pull the tape around the fullest part of waist, keep it slightly loose for comfort.

You do not need to add anything extra to your measurements for these styles but if you would like some added wiggle room to be safe, you may add an additional 0.25 - 0.5 inches (or 0.5 - 1 centimeter if ordering in centimeters on one of our international website) to your bust, under bust, belly, and hip measurements for some added wiggle room but because of the pattern for these styles, the skirts will have extra room built in automatically.

Please keep in mind that if you plan to order a Non-Maternity Style (anything not found here) you will need to follow our custom sizing guidelines under the Non-Maternity Styles section of this article.

NON-MATERNITY STYLES

If you do not like or don't see your color available in our Maternity Styles, we have one non-maternity style that we can custom make to maternity measurements: Jeneva

To custom order this style, you will be asked to provide your bust, waist, hips, height, and hollow to floor measurements. For your bust, hips, height, and hollow to floor measurements you can follow the measuring instructions on our size chart page.

For your waist, you'll follow these instructions instead:

Waist

Measure around the fullest part of your belly bump and add 1 inch to the measurement for every 4 weeks leading up to your event.

For example, if my belly measurement is 33 inches at the widest point and my event is in 16 weeks, I'll add 4 inches to that measurement and input my waist measurement at checkout as 37 inches.

If ordering on one of our international websites, you'll have the option to place your order with centimeters so it will be 2.5 centimeters for every 4 weeks leading up to the event.

These extra inches or centimeters will allow for extra room to be built into your dress so you have room for growth but keep in mind that there is no hard and fast way to know how much your body will change. You may grow more, or you may grow less, we can't be absolutely positive.

Please keep the following in mind the following:

    • Non-Maternity Styles are not designed with pregnancy  in mind, so some additional adjustments may be needed for comfort. For example, you may feel more comfortable without the boning in the dress and this is something that can be adjusted by a local seamstress if needed.
    • If you get your dress and need adjustments made, we do offer some alteration reimbursements for custom sized dresses. This means we would help cover some of the costs for needed adjustments. You can learn more about that here
    • Custom sizing is non-returnable

If you have another Non-Maternity Style in mind, you will definitely want to custom order as instructed above but we may not be able to make the dress. Reach out to our customer service team a few days before you plan to order (we recommend ordering 4 months before the event) with the following:

    • Style Name
    • Exact Event Date
    • Current Bust, Waist (measured at widest point of belly bump), and Hips Measurements.

We'll do our best to assist you in determining how many extra inches or centimeters you'll need to add and what exactly will be needed to get the order placed. Just keep in mind that this style will likely need additional alterations and custom sizing is non-returnable.

POSTPARTUM ADVICE

If you will be postpartum at the time of your event, please reach out to our customer service team with the following information and we'll do our best to recommend the best style or size for your unique situation:

        • Exact Event Date
        • Due Date
        • Style Desired (if known)
        • Color Needed
        • Length Needed
        • Current Bust, Waist, and Hip Measurements

NOT PREGNANT YET

No matter whether you are or are not pregnant, we always recommend ordering no sooner than 4 months before your event.

If at 4 months before your event you are still not pregnant, we recommend that you measure yourself according to our guidelines to determine your best size and you can either order 1 size up to be safe and/or order some additional fabric (which is non-returnable) to make any needed alterations if you become pregnant and see some growth.

We would not recommend ordering a custom size dress.
